SILG Año attends Davao Region’s Provincial/City Action Planning Workshop on Building Sustainable Peace

April 29, 2019, Davao City – In view of the initial steps in contextualizing the roles and responsibilities of the Department in the Local Government Empowerment cluster, DILG XI in close coordination with LGA conducted the Provincial/City Action Planning Workshop on Building Sustainable Peace at the Grand Regal Hotel, Lanang, this city.

This is a follow through from the activity dated December 4, 2018 where the President signed the Executive Order No. 70 s. 2018 known as “Institutionalizing the Whole-of-Nation Approach in Attaining Inclusive and sustainable Peace, Creating a National Task Force (NTF) to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC)” and Directing the Adoption of a National Peace Framework.

The primary objective of the activity is to develop the DILG - ELCAC Framework and define the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders. This is also to provide an avenue for the LGUs to harmonize their efforts to optimize the effects of such efforts towards ending local communist armed conflict.

SILG Eduardo M. Ano discussed DILG’s role in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict. He underscored President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to all national government agencies  to contribute and augment LGU funds aimed towards a peaceful, inclusive, just and equitable community support programs.

“ In our collective task to end this problem, it is of paramount importance that we understand what we are fighting against. It is logical and easy to assume that poverty, corruption and injustice fuel insurgency. But the truth is, these are merely issues that the left favorably and knowingly exploit to lure people into joining their cause. The key to the success of the NTF- ELCAC is the collaboration of everyone. Together, we will be able to end local communist armed conflict in the country. Together, we can make peace a reality,” he said.

The attendance of all invited participants was a demonstration of everyone’s willingness to share resources and unite efforts to realize the task force mandates, objectives and functions.
