DAVAO CITY, March 8 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) XI Regional Director Alex C. Roldan discussed the upcoming major events to be facilitated by the Department: the first Barangay Assembly and the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) meeting this March 2019, during the Kapihan sa Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

“The Barangay Assembly serves as the venue for the people to be part of the decision-making about the plans to take, accomplishments, complaints, and other agenda,” RD Roldan said.

ARD Abdullah Matalam and Legal Officer Louie Limbaro also joined the discussion. Limbaro added that under the Local Government Code, the barangays are mandated to conduct this activity every March and October annually, and for the first barangay assembly this year, on any of the Saturdays or Sundays this month. Hence, failure to conduct can lead to the filing of an administrative complaint against barangay officials before the Sangguniang Panglungsod or the Office of the Ombudsman.

The NPOC meeting and Command Conference with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) will also be conducted this March 14, 2019 in Arcadia, Davao City which will be attended by President Rodrigo Duterte, Secretaries, Chairmen, Directors and Chiefs of different agencies.

“The meeting will not be open to media because insurgency, criminality, violent extremism, anti-drug and other confidential topics will be discussed, thus, the discussion cannot be divulged to the public yet,” RD Roldan said.

Other programs and upcoming events concerning the Department were also discussed during the Kapihan sa PIA such as federalism, elections and campaigns, ease of doing business, and consumer satisfaction index.
