DILG XI supports Earth Hour 2019
To create a movement for nature, move towards a plastic pollution-free future and to shine a light on the issue of single-use plastics, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) XI will be supporting the Earth Hour 2019 on March 30, 8:30PM to 9:30PM.
Earth hour is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. This year’s Earth Hour highlights why nature matters, and how we can begin a sustainable journey towards achieving a future where single-use plastics no longer harm our planet.
“DILG XI will participate during the lights-off hour, even if it is a week-end, I have instructed the guards in the office to switch off all non-essential lights to help raise awareness and aid in the recovery of the nature’s loss ,” RD Alex C. Roldan said.
RD Roldan also added that he enjoins all employees to do the same and encourages every local government unit (LGU) in Davao Region to participate in the Earth Hour. Further, reminds all LGUs to let the World Wide Fund (WWF) Philippines know and recognize their existing policies or initiatives on single-use plastic reduction, recycle and waste management, if there are any.
(The WWF’s “No Plastic in Nature Initiative,” which is a global projects aims to eliminate unnecessary plastic, to reuse, recycle it, and ensure remaining plastic is sourced responsibly by 2030.)
