DILG XI supports DSWD’s campaign on Legal Adoption
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI celebrated its 2019 Adoption Consciousness Week on February 9-17, 2019 with the theme “Pagmamahal Palaganapin, Legal na Pag-aampon Ating Gawin! (Spread Unconditional Love through Legal Adoption).”
Atty. Calatrava discusses the adoption laws and guidelines.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) XI supports the DSWD in promoting the process of legal adoption to uphold the rights of surrendered, orphaned, and neglected children and to ensure that all Filipino children will have families of their own.
“We encourage the adoptive parents to go through the process of legal adoption and all families with children entrusted to them to legalize the adoption of the concerned children,” said Ma. Elena S. Labrador, Protective Services Division Chief of DSWD XI during the Adoption Symposium on February 15, 2019 at the Apo View Hotel.
The said symposium was attended by partner National Government Agencies, Local Government Units (LGUs), Child Caring Agencies (CCAs), Private and Public Hospitals and Media Partners from local radio stations.
Atty. Leo Anthony R. Braceros of City Civil Registrar discussed the Issues and Detection of Simulation of Birth Registration and Atty. Francis A. Calatrava, Regional Director of Public Attorney’s Office and Chairperson of Child Welfare Specialist Group, discussed the Republic Act 8552 , or the Domestic Adoption Act of 1998.
To disseminate basic information about legal adoption, help desks are being set up in selected SM malls and churches. Further, there is also regular pre-adoption forum conducted every 3rd Monday of the month, 1:00 in the afternoon.
“DSWD can always request assistance to us in promoting their campaigns such as legal adoption. Just send us an official communication and we will relay that to our field offices,” DILG XI Regional Director Alex C. Roldan, CESO V said.
