DILG XI Supports Earth Hour

ONCE a year all national landmarks and households switch off their lights for one hour, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, in support of Earth Hour.

This year’s celebration falls on March 24, 2018, Saturday. This activity is an annual initiative by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which began in Sydney, Australia.

As a partner and advocate, DILG 11 Regional Director Alex C. Roldan, CESO V said “I am calling on all DILG Personnel to switch off their lights in their households because this small deed is your contribution to save energy and reduce carbon footprints.” He further added that “if you miss turning off the lights then you may opt to practice “No to Plastic” by refusing unsustainable products or things and demand for sustainable options, during each shopping trip”.

“Climate change is not an interesting topic for most people. Our job is to bring the message across in the most simple way so that people realize that we can’t reverse the damage done, but there is still time for us to do something about it”, he added.

As a country signatory to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the Philippines’ participation in this global campaign highlights the need for every Filipino to take action today as climate change continues to threaten our country’s biodiversity and our way of life.
