Barangays warned of ‘OIC-appointment’ scam

The local Department of Interior and Local Government office in Davao City urgently issue a warning to all Local Government Units under their supervision regarding individuals and groups around  the country falsely claiming that they can have people appointed as OIC-barangay and local officials under a federal system of government and a revolutionary government (RevGov) and asking for money or favors in return.

Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Director Alex C. Roldan, CESO V explained that numerous reports have reached DILG regarding these groups masquerading to be affiliated or permitted by this Department to campaign for federalism or RevGov.

He said he was informed that these group of scammers lure both incumbent and aspiring barangay and local government officials into being included in a supposed priority list of people to be appointed should the country shift to a federal form of government or undergo a RevGov. In exchange, unwitting victims give money to these con groups.

RD Roldan clearly and openly announces to the public that the DILG is in no way officially promoting a RevGov and that the DILG does not support the appointment of barangay and local officials should the country shift to a federal form of government. The same is true that the DILG does not solicit any money even in disguise of membership fees and donations nor any favor for the fake promise of OIC appointment.

Further the Central Office of DILG recently released an Advisory on this issue due to increasing complaint from local officials who have been targeted by said groups.

“People should immediately report the group to the DILG for appropriate action”, he added.(MSM).
